# Professionalism, empathy, drive to sustainable workplace performance – Ifeoluwa Salam, HR Expert

Seasoned human resource management professional, Ifeoluwa Olubukola Salam has revealed that continuous learning and empathy have been central to her career growth and her ability to thrive in traditionally male-dominated corporate environments.

With experience across banking, insurance, training and human capital development, has said professionalism, Ifeoluwa, a Covenant University graduate and a master’s degree obtained in the United Kingdom and professional training from Harvard University, stated this while sharing insights into her career journey during an interaction with journalists in Lagos.

With a background that cuts across highly regulated institutions and people-focused organisations, Ifeoluwa is regarded as efficient and proactive, with strong analytical skills in talent acquisition and resource procurement. Known for her negotiation and mediation strengths, she has built a reputation for driving performance, maintaining productive relationships and managing complex responsibilities under pressure. Over the years, she has contributed to the growth of several corporate organisations, particularly through training, recruitment and outsourcing initiatives.

Speaking on how her diverse experiences have shaped her approach to people management, Ifeoluwa said her exposure to different sectors and countries helped her strike a balance between structure and empathy. “Working across banking, insurance, professional training, and human resource management—both in Nigeria and the UK—has shaped my people-management philosophy around empathy, structure, and performance balance,” she said. According to her, working in institutions such as Zenith Bank and the Royal Bank of Scotland exposed her to environments where discipline, accountability and service standards were non-negotiable, while her HR and training roles revealed the importance of motivation, capability and engagement.

There's a mix of stories on the front pages of Wednesday's papers. The UK is set to rejoin Erasmus, the EU's student exchange programme, with the announcement expected on Wednesday, the Guardian reports. The paper says the plan would allow students to take part in the EU-wide scheme without paying any additional fees from January 2027. Its top picture spot features US congresswoman Ilhan Omar and an interview where she criticises "vile" comments made by Donald Trump.

The Times also leads on British students being allowed to rejoin Erasmus, saying the deal is the "first tangible outcome" of the PM's reset with the European Union. Elsewhere, the Princess of Wales and her daughter Charlotte are featured on their way to the annual pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace.

The Daily Mail makes its focus the BBC's charter renewal. The paper says the government will consider new ways of funding the broadcaster, including via advertising or a subscription model. This means that fan favourite shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and The Traitors could be placed behind paywall, the Mail says.

In other news involving the broadcaster, the Mirror turns its attention to Donald Trump filing a defamation lawsuit against the BBC over its editing of a Panorama documentary. "BBC comes out fighting" is the headline. A BBC spokesperson said: "As we have made clear previously, we will be defending this case."
